Hosting

The site and its database are hosted in France by OVHcloud, on a virtual private server located in France. Some third-party services do, however, process data outside the European Union: Stripe, Clerk and Resend (payments, sign-in and emails), CARTO (base map), Anthropic (reading press articles, with no visitor data at all) and Gistin, the co-publisher based in Abu Dhabi. The privacy policy gives the detail.

Intellectual property

The GISFire interface, its presentation, its texts and its illustrations are protected. Reproducing or imitating them requires written permission.

The data on display, by contrast, remains the property of its producers and follows their respective licences: NASA FIRMS, NASA GIBS, Open-Meteo, EOX, Copernicus, EUMETSAT, NOAA, CARTO, OpenStreetMap, adsb.lol. The detail is on the page credits, sources and limits.

What the service is

GISFire's public map is a free information service, with no advertising and no account to create. GISFire Pro, opened on 16 September 2026, is a separate, paid service that does require an account and a subscription. Neither of them is a statutory alerting tool: satellite detections arrive several hours late, the satellites only come back two to four times a day, and a fire can therefore start, spread and be put out without ever appearing on the map.

In an emergency, rely on the competent authorities and on official instructions, never on this map. What the tool does and does not do is described on the page about.

Personal data

The public map is read without an account; only the optional "Your feedback" form lets you write from it. GISFire Pro, on the other hand, requires an account, a paid subscription and settings forms, and buying data one purchase at a time requires an email address and a payment. What is recorded in every case, audience measurement, server logs, account and order data, is described in the privacy policy.
