Fires in Iraq follow the farming calendar and the spring drought: stubble burning after harvests, steppe and forest fires from March to June, then a second wave in autumn. Agricultural detections are numerous and often short-lived.

The detected footprint overstates the area actually burnt, a 375 m pixel counting whole when only an edge burns.
