Wildfires in Poland

Situation over the last 30 days

98 fires detected in Poland over the last 30 days, totalling 9,082 hectares of cumulative footprint. The latest satellite detection (NASA FIRMS) dates from October 11 at 05:02 AM.

Fires in Poland are mostly grass, heath or stubble fires, in spring before vegetation greens up and during summer droughts. Areas are modest, but dry years bring forest fires unusual for these latitudes.

Other countries

These figures come from satellite thermal detection and are not an official tally: only the emergency services of the country concerned are authoritative. The detected footprint overstates the area actually burnt, a pixel counting whole (375 m for VIIRS, 1 km for MODIS) when only an edge burns. A freshly detected fire may not yet carry a place name and will then not appear in this list, though it is already on the map.
