Fires are counted on the archive: the very latest days consolidate over about forty-eight hours and may momentarily under-count ongoing fires. Drops and lightning come from the same sources as the map.

84 fires over the period, including 48 known only through the press. Satellite-measured fires total 8,741 hectares of detected footprint : it overstates the area actually burnt: a pixel counts whole (375 m for VIIRS, 1 km for MODIS) even when only an edge burns.
